By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer The Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce had a record number of nominees for its 2009 Business Achievement Awards. Winners of the awards are: · Business of the Year: The Independent & Free Press · Entrepreneur of the Year: Brady Davies of The Cellar Restaurant · Employee of the Year: Kay Matthews manager of Georgetown BIA · Green Award: Friends of Devereaux House Sue Walker, general manager of Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce, said there were at least seven "good, solid" nominations in each category making for "lots of good debate" around the table when selecting the award recipients. The Annual Business Achievement Awards Banquet will be held in honour of the recipients March 10 at Blue Springs Golf Course. The Independent & Free Press publisher Ken Nugent said the newspaper is "thrilled and honoured" to be named the recipient of the Chamber award. "We feel we are an integral part of the business community in Halton Hills and this award cements that," said Nugent. Independent & Free Press general manager Steve Foreman said, "It's an honour to be recognized and be in the company of the past recipients and it's also a testament to the dedication and hard work our staff put in each day to be the main source of local information for Halton Hills residents." The newspaper is a combination of The Acton Free Press, which opened in 1875, and The Georgetown Independent, started by David and Jim Dills in 1978. It is owned by Metroland Media Group Ltd. The two papers became one newspaper in 1990 to fully represent the Town of Halton Hills, while still replating the Tuesday front page to reflect the identities of Acton and Georgetown.
