The work, cast at Artcast in Georgetown, was created by plaster bandage casting a live elephant, then going through an elaborate process to cast it in bronze. The work has been set in its temporary display location outside the Gallery in Glen Williams, but it is expected to be mounted on the wall of the yellow building at Williams Mill within the next few weeks. Photo by Ted Brown Study: Town should plan now for seniors boom By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Look to your left and then right, chances are someone you see will be a senior-- one in seven people are 55 years or older. Now fast forward 20 short years, look to your left and then right, chances are you will see more seniors than children. In 2031, one out of every three people will be a senior, and at this point Canada will have more seniors than children, aged 14 and under. This is a phenomenon never before recorded, and a Town of Halton Hills study says the time is now to start planning for new seniors centres to accommodate our aging population-- the Baby Boomer generation. The $20,000 report, prepared by True North Group consultants in consultation with members of the town's two seniors' centres, and presented at a recent council meeting, recommends both Acton and Georgetown be expanded to accommodate the present membership, the untapped market, and the future seniors. It recommends the Town proceed with the space expansion of the Acton Seniors Centre, located within the Acton Arena and Community Centre-- total dedicated seniors centre space: 6,200 sq. ft. plus the centre would continue to share space within the Community Centre.
