22 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, March 11, 2010 DIY lovers can find info at the library If you have been hanging around the library lately, you are likely aware about the building and renovation bug that has bitten all us library folk. As we prepare for a new Acton Branch and a renovated Georgetown Branch, many of us are thinking buildings and repairs. But I think the time of year also has a lot to do with it. I know that as spring weather starts to creep into the forecast, thoughts often turn to all the things that need to be repaired or improved around the house and garden. The library is certainly your onestop-shop for many books about gardening and home repairs, but we also have other ideas for helping you. Here are a few that you may not know about. Sometimes with home repairs it is easier to see how it is done as well as read about it. The Halton Hills Public Library has lots of DVDs on home repair topics including: tiling, plumbing, basements, kitchens, yearly maintenance, flooring, brickwork, central heating and more. The How Do I DVD series is a great example. All of our how-to DVDs are free to borrow with your Halton Hills Public Library card. If you are interested in car repairs you may be aware that the library keeps auto repair manuals in our non-fiction section. But what you may not know is Clare Hanman that we also have an online database called the Auto Repair Reference Centre. This database is available through our website, and it is a really handy way to get your hands on all sorts of auto repair information including repair instructions, part specifications, wiring diagrams, recalls, maintenance schedules, and a whole lot more. There are listing for vehicles manufactured from 1945 to 2009. To access this resource go to the library website at www.hhpl.on.ca, and follow the Online Databases link to Science and Technology. The Auto Repair Reference Centre is the first database listed under that heading. So if the spring weather has you thinking about getting out your toolbox, don't forget your local public library can help. For more information, come visit us at either of our two branches or visit our website at www.hhpl.on.ca.
