Passing the Torch of Remembrance The Committee members of the Georgetown Candlelight Tributes plan these annual commemorative ceremonies. The date has been chosen because of the relationship to military history celebrating Victory in Europe (VE Day) and the significance for our community to come together to bring much deserved recognition and pay tribute to our Veterans. During the day 1,400 students from 19 schools, accompanied by Veterans will place candles during ceremonies in Georgetown (10:00 a.m. at Remembrance Park) and in Glen Williams (1:00 p.m. at the Cenotaph) in a symbolic Passing of the Torch of Remembrance. The candles signify "peace AND freedom" we enjoy as Canadians. In the evening, a "Silent Walk" starting at 6:30 p.m. from the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 120 and ending at Remembrance Park, will include all members of the community to honour Veterans by placing candles at the Cenotaph. Following the "Silent Walk" there will be a reception at the Legion of light refreshments thereby affording some time to socialize with our Veterans.
