Fire department issues fireplace warning Halton Hills Fire Protection and Prevention Services and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal are warning area residents about an unapproved vent-free fireplace that was sold at Liquidation World stores in Ontario. The fireplaces are typically fueled by natural gas, operate without a chimney, flue or vent. The fireplaces manufactured by ProCom are not approved for sale or installation in Canada according to the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). These types of appliances require sufficient combustion air to ensure complete combustion of the fuel and no production of carbon monoxide. Due to modern construction of trends and the shift to energy efficiency and more tightly constructed homes means there is a possibility these appliances pose a significant CO risk.
