24 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, April 1, Caring For Your Aging Parents seminar Floor is fixed-- programs to resume at Georgetown Seniors Centre puts focus on dementia illnesses In the report, Rising Tide-- The Impact of Dementia on Canadian Society, released by the Alzheimer Society of Canada, it was reported that one in 11 Canadians currently has Alzheimer's Disease or a related dementia. If this trend continue, within 25 years the number of people living with Alzheimer's Disease or a related dementia will reached 1.1 million Canadians. Georgetown Alliance Church will be presenting a seminar, Caring for Your Aging Parents- Alzheimer's and Dementia, on Saturday, April 10 at 9 a.m. This seminar will focus on the challenges that adult children and their parents face with the onset of Alzheimer's and dementia. Healthcare professionals from Acclaim Health, Mississauga-Halton Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) and the Alzheimer's Society of Canada will present a full agenda, which will include: · A review of the early warning signs, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases · Tips to help a family adjust when facing these diseases · Insight into resources available to families of Alzheimer's or dementia sufferers Participants will be able to visit displays presented by non-profit service organizations that offer a wide variety of resources to Halton Hills residents. This free seminar will be held at the church, 290 Main St., S. in Georgetown. All are welcome. Young's Pharmacy is coming to the Centre on April 20 to show some of their health and homecare needs and their new adaptive clothing line they have available for seniors. Doing your spring cleaning? Consider donating items to the Centre's Yard Sale on Saturday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to noon. Please no clothing, TVs, record players, or large furniture. Posters are going up around town with news of the "Come Shop With Us" experience to be held at the Centre, Saturday, May 8. Doors open at 9 a.m. Guaranteed something for everyone. Yes, ladies! It's coming! The eagerly awaited Alia/Tan Jay Fashion Show. On Thursday, May 13 they will be at the Centre to show their fabulous new spring and summer line.
