The workshop will be held on Saturday, April 17, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Limehouse Memoral Hall. Cost is $5 per person with a light lunch and door prizes included. The morning speaker is Wally Seccombe, professor and founding member of Everdale Organic Farm & Environmental Learning Centre. He will explain how the rising demand for local food is creating a space for a new/old kind of small-scale, ecologically diversified farming and why shopping locally can be a better choice. The afternoon speaker is Joan Joyner, RN, Public Health Nurse who will present Children's Health and the Environment, focusing on risk, toxicity and exposure on some of the everyday products used in the home and suggestions for some alternative strategies. McCracken, who will play at York University next year, was the setter for the Rebel senior girls' volleyball team that earned silver medals at the provincial AAAA championships in Barrie. Oles earned silver medals in the 100m individual medley and 50m breaststroke, along with a bronze for the GDHS 200m IM relay team at the Ontario finals recently in Etobicoke. Christ the King Athletes of the Week are Brandon Clelland and Dylan Hannan. Clelland, a Grade 10 centre and captain on the Jaguar junior boys' hockey team, was CtK's MVP at the recent Burlington Cup and Motown Cup tournaments. Hannan captained the Jags' varsity hockey squad that claimed its first-ever Halton and Golden Horseshoe championships in 2010, advancing to the OFSAA AAA/AAAA quarterfinals. Acton District High School Athletes of the Week are Troy Weaver and Scott Garvie. Grade 11 student Weaver played well at wide receiver for the Georgetown Rebel senior football team this past fall. Garvie, a Grade 10 setter on the Bearcat junior boys' volleyball squad, helped engineer Acton's upset of Corpus Christi in the opening round of HSSAA playoffs.
