Carol grew up in Hamilton and Toronto, the only daughter of Harold and Kathleen Peter, sister to Ronald (wife Margaret) of Mississauga and Gordon, who died childhood. In 1963, she married Stanley Lamb of Toronto, and the newlyweds settled into a happy life in Georgetown, Ontario. For two decades, Carol devoted her time and skills to the sport of figure skating, serving on the Boards of Directors of the Georgetown Figure Skating Club, as well as the Ontario and Canadian Figure Skating Associations. She was a loyal employee of the Georgetown Public Library for over twenty-five years and in 1982, when her husband lost his life to cancer, she bravely faced the challenges of a single parent. Her pride in her children's accomplishments was obvious to all who knew her (Teri, a Certified General Accountant, Kevin a longtime employee of Chrysler Canada, and Susan, completing a PhD in History); their successes are a reflection of her dedication to their prosperity and well being. In 1995, Carol "retired" to Wasaga Beach, operating a successful cottage rental business for ten years. She spent most of 2000 in the hospital battling a serious illness, but her own determination and the help of her family restored her to relative health so that she enjoyed an active and independent retirement in recent years. To her three children, she was a beloved mother, respected matriarch, trusted adviser and dear friend. Daughters Teri Bowers (husband Derek) of Wasaga Beach and Susan Lamb of Toronto, and son Kevin Lamb of Etobicoke, will forever feel the profound emotional and intellectual loss. Carol had one granddaughter, Alicia Bowers, who will miss her Nana deeply. Stan's sister, Judy Bryans, and Carol's nephews and nieces are grieving her unexpected death. All her family and friends will miss dearly her company, advice, loyalty, kindness and love. Carol was laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. She is survived by her husband, Harvey, children John and Jim of Ashgrove, Ontario, Janet (Lawrence) Guimond of Grand Bay - Westfield, New Brunswick, grandchildren Christopher (Beth) Guimond of London, Ontario, Jessica (Greg) Hemmings of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Adam Guimond of Perth, Australia, great grandchildren Kaiya Hemmings, Lucas, Lochlain, and Declan Guimond, also Sisters-inlaw Eileen (the late Howard), Glenn (the late Garnet), and many loving and loved relatives and friends. Predeceased by siblings Howard, Garnet and Florence (the late Keith) Christie. The Family wishes to thank the Staff of Extendicare, Halton Hills, from first to last, for their care, concern and compassion, and especially Nurses Abby, Debbie and Sarah. Also Cousins Betty, Jean and Marsha for their kindnesses over the years. Our Mom was a quiet person of surprising intellectual depth. She also enjoyed a good long, active conversation with family or friends about most anything, but especially reading, gardening, sometimes neighbours and relatives, and always family concerns and achievements. Muriel loved reading any well written story, as long as the `good-guys' won, religious articles, the Bible, and especially historical works, both fact and fiction. She tried many crafts and became skilled at most of them, particularly leatherwork in the `60's and `70's, needle work, tatting, crocheting and knitting from the mid-'70's to early 2000's, and enjoyed `dabbling' in several others, among them drawing and painting, but lacked the confidence in herself to pursue. She enjoyed baking and we enjoyed the results. Muriel and Harvey would have been married for 62 years on September 11th, 2010. Yes, some good things were celebrated on "9/11" too. Our Mother never `pushed' us, but encouraged and supported our endeavours and was always the proudest one at our success. She could hardly contain herself when granddaughter Jessica, graduated as a Doctor. Muriel believed in being active in her community, and gave her time, at various times, to various causes. From about 1959 to 1968, she served on the Stewarttown Parent - Teacher Association. In the 1970's she was a part time counselors at the Brampton Elizabeth Frye Society, and often campaigned for the Cancer Society. She was a member of the Esquessing Historical Society, a long term member of the Georgetown Agricultural Society (Fair), the Steam-Era, and of course, a devoted member of the United Church Women, and the Ashgrove Women's Institute. She served on many committees and could always be counted on for help. One of her proudest moments was being awarded a Life Membership in the Ontario Women's Institute with her fellow members around her. Concerned, compassionate, creative, forgiving, self-effacing, sometimes impulsive, a little shy, a fan of the `under-dog', steadfastly loyal to her family and friends, one of the most loving, generous, and gentle people you'll ever meet, moved on to Paradise this week. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 22nd, 2010, from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Halton Hills 905-877-3631. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 23rd, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Hillcrest United Church, on the corner of Trafalgar Road and the 5th Sideroad, 2 kms North of Hornby. Interment at the Ashgrove Cemetery will follow the service. The Family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Muriel's memory to the Elizabeth Frye Society, the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Condolences may be forwarded through www.jsjonesandsonfuneralhome.com IN MEMORIAM HILTS - In loving memory of my dear mother Viola Hilts, who passed away April 19th, 1994. I will always remember the way she looked, The way she spoke and smiled, The little things she said and did, Are with me all the while. Beyond the gate, my Mother, Finds happiness and rest, And there is comfort in the thought, That a loving God knows best. Sadly missed and always remembered by, daughter, Helena CARDS OF THANKS MY family and I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Father David Wynen, Holy Cross parishioners and members of the Christian Reform Church for their support, prayers, Mass Cards and visits, whilst I was a patient in the Milton Hospital. Visits from friends are appreciated; even though it took a long time for my memory to return enough to recognize faces! It is with mixed emotions that Ron and I leave Georgetown to take up residence in Milton. My illness makes it imperative that we be nearer to our daughter Jackie and Milton Hospital. However, we hope to be returning to Georgetown at regular intervals to renew old acquaintances.
