United Way had a goal of $300,000 for its campaign, and to date has brought in $306,000. "We're thrilled," said executive director Janet Foster. "This United Way is quite unique. We only have one staff member and a part-time bookkeeper. It's predominantly run by volunteers in the community. I've got such a great pool of volunteers that are so committed." She is appreciative of all the support from the community and said the message about giving where you live is getting out there because she said, "we've seen an increase in our United Way designation coming back from workplaces." "We had some really good local business support and some excellent third party fundraising events," said Foster. Last year, the local United Way failed to reach its campaign goal of $300,000, raising $281,000. Foster said a donation to the United Way goes to many different charitable organizations and this year the number of recipient agencies has increased by five to 19. In total the number of programs funded by the United Way is 26.
