TCE start-up to be noisy By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Halton Hills Council granted Trans Canada Energy (TCE) a noise bylaw exemption recently so the company can start up equipment at its Steeles Ave. Halton Hills Generating Station. David Small, site manager of the facility, said the company is in the final stages of construction and will be soon starting up various pieces of equipment, that require blowing of steam. The first phase slated tentatively to occur between Monday (Apr. 26) to May 8 will be cleaning of the major steam piping systems and the second phase is cleaning of the air-cooled condenser, currently scheduled for June. Small said the steam blowing, that could begin as early as next week, will last up to five days, 24-hours a day, and will emit up to 80 decibels at the point of release. "Should this be an inconvenience to the neighbours on Steeles Ave. Trans Canada is prepared to put them up in a hotel of their choice," said Small. Mayor Rick Bonnette asked how the noise from the steam blowing compares to noise from Hwy. 401. Small said the minimum noise level coming from the 401 is 85 decibels. Ward 2 Councillor Bryan Lewis asked if it would be five days of continuous noise. "It's hard to answer duration. The intent is a 24-hour blow," said Small adding, "you blow until you get a clean target." Small said the residents had not yet been notified, because TCE wanted to get the exemption first. "Our concern would be that people are notified well in advance," said Ward 2 Councillor Joan Robson. TCE intends to notify the neighbours when it knows for sure what dates the steam blows will occur. 17 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, April 22, 2010 NCE O P C T We will not be UNDERSOLD We will beat Any advertised price* · Any Ford dealer · Any vehicle · Any colour 2010 ESCAPE We will beat Any advertised price · Any Ford dealer· Any model · Any price The Regional Municipality of Halton www.halton.ca PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE Installation of a new Watermain on Boston Church Road/ Third Line from the Zone 5 Reservoir to the future James Snow Parkway (Regional Road 4) and on James Snow Parkway from Boston Church Road/Third Line to Steeles Avenue (Regional Road 8) Towns of Halton Hills (Georgetown) and Milton PR-2349C Halton Region is proposing to install a new watermain along the following roads: kÏ Boston Church Road/Third Line from Zone 5 Reservoir (end of Hume Court) to the future James Snow Parkway kÏ James Snow Parkway from Third Line to Steeles Avenue A Public Information Centre will be held to provide residents with an opportunity to review the project drawings and to discuss any potential construction disruptions that may result from the proposed works.
