In Focus, May, 2010 2 Acton Town Hall Centre Re-Introduction After decades of blood, sweat, tears and fundraising, the lovingly restored Acton Town Hall Centre was opened to the public on April 24. Dating back to 1883, the building was the administrative, cultural and social centre of the village for decades before falling into disrepair and being slated for demolition in the 1970s. A group of citizens banded together to buy the property and hosted dozens of different fundraisers to pay for the building's restoration. Decades of hard work later, the dedicated volunteers showed off the fruits of their labour with a huge ceremony and reception that included comedic interpretations of early town hall meetings, speeches and greetings from all levels of government, and a tour of the historic building.
