Globe opens spring musical on Friday By DANIELLE MORRIS Georgetown Globe Productions To Dream the Impossible Dream is one of the most popular musical theatre songs of all time. This haunting, yet inspiring anthem is full of proverbial wisdom and stirring sentiment. It is the quest of Don Quixote, an aging gentleman who has lost touch with reality or alternately, finally seeing the world clearly? That is your choice to make. Georgetown Globe Musical Productions is presenting the story of Man of La Mancha by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh based on Don Quixote by Miguel de Cerventes opening Friday, at the John Elliott Theatre. This musical features Globe mainstay Mark Llewellyn as the mad knight Don Quixote, supported by a cast of Globe regulars and newcomers. The story begins as Don Miguel de Cerventes is thrown in prison awaiting the Inquisition. He finds himself before a kangaroo court of fellow prisoners whom he has to impress in order to reclaim his only possession of note, the manuscript of Don Quixote... his life's work. He presents his defence in the only way he knows, by telling the story in the form of a charade. The prison becomes the world of Don Quixote and the prisoners the actors within the tale. We see the world through the eyes of Quixote where a windmill is an ogre, a kitchen servant is his beloved lady and a questionable inn is a great castle. Ever supported by his faithful squire Sancho, Quixote goes forth and tries to add a measure of grace to the world. Director Danny Harvey says, "The Georgetown theatre community sets the bar incredibly high so it is both a challenge and an honour to come into this town and direct a piece of theatre that is near to my heart." Harvery adds, "I was 15 years old when I first saw this show and it changed my life in many ways. The lessons learned in this seemingly simple piece of entertainment helped define how I see the world. I want nothing more than to share that with the audience attending."
