Man attempts to lure youth into car Halton Regional Police are investigating a report of a suspicious man in Acton who tried to order a young boy into his vehicle Thursday afternoon. About 3:30 p.m. a 12-year-old Acton boy was delivering newspapers on Mill St. W. on his bicycle when a man in a silver, four-door vehicle pulled up beside him and ordered him to get into his car, police report. The boy didn't stop or talk to the man, but instead rode home to tell his parents. Police checked the area but could not find the man. The man in the car is described as white, 5'8" to 6' tall, with short hair. He was wearing a red t-shirt and was possibly in a 2006 to 2009 four-door silver vehicle with an Ontario licence plate. Halton Police recommend parents review street safety precautions discussed in school with their younger children, to reinforce the school safety program. They recommend parents tell their children to: · Play safe and play together. Do not play in remote areas of parks, or take shortcuts through the woods. · Do not loiter on the way to or from school. · Do not go anywhere with a stranger, and do not accept rides for any reason. Do not be afraid to say "No" to any request, and run away quickly. · Advise an adult of any suspicious strangers right away. · Do not accept any treats toys or money from a stranger for any reason. · Notify your parents where you are and where you are going, especially if it is a change in routine. North Halton drivers lead way in seatbelt offences Continued from pg. 1 Prior to the start of the seatbelt blitz volunteers from Halton Police Service's Communities on Phone Patrol (COPP) in Burlington observed vehicles for the seatbelt compliance of occupants. They found 97.5 per cent of drivers and passengers were wearing their seatbelts. They also noted that the rate for people not using a cellphone while driving was as high as 99 per cent. Police remind everyone to wear their seatbelts, as they have been proven to save lives. Parents should be aware that a properly installed child car seat reduces a child's risk of injury in a collision by as much as 75 per cent.
