SPORTS & LEISURE Rookie Tyler Ferreira of Brampton scored his first Jr. B hat trick and earned playerof-the-game honours as the Halton Hills Bulldogs routed the Gloucester Griffins 13-1 Saturday night. With a big home-opening crowd in attendance at the Alcott Arena, the 'Dogs improved their Ontario Lacrosse Association Jr. B league record to 4-0-0, building a 10-0 lead after two periods of play. Single goals were added by Jordan Dance, Ashton Waters, Connor Sellars, Leland de Langley, Bradley Kri, Peter Laidlaw, Nic Grasby, Michael Licata, Ethan O'Connor and Shane Scott. Goalie Dusty Hanzelka's shutout was broken with a goal 4:32 into the third period, as he made 31 saves in total. The veteran O'Connor made his first start after finishing his studies at Hobart College in New York. Second baseman Patrick Gough of Christ the King's Jaguars just misses putting the tag on a White Oaks' baserunner last Thursday in a Halton high school boys' baseball contest at the Georgetown Fairgrounds. The Jags improved to 3-0-0 with an 8-6 victory after building a 5-0 first-inning lead. Starter Jonathan Palumbo struck out seven batters through four innings to earn the win, with Matthew Cunha coming in to earn the save with the bases loaded. Photo by Eamonn Maher Rogers golf tourney in need of volunteers Golf's Canadian Tour is set to swing its way back into Halton this summer with the Jane Rogers Championship, which, for a second straight year, will descend on Milton's Greystone Golf Club Aug. 9-15. Organizers are seeking volunteers to fill a number of positions, such as course marshals, caddies, walking scorers, standard bearers and tee announcers. Students looking to fulfill their high school volunteering requirements are encouraged to sign up. All net proceeds will go to the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada and Mississauga's Trillium Health Centre Oncology Unit.
