Because Halton Region has charged them $71,000 for water services they can't even get By KIM ARNOTT Metroland Media Group Regional politicians have rejected a request by two Acton companies to receive a rebate on fees they have paid for water and wastewater services they don't need, and can't get anyway. Last Wednesday, representatives from Metro Pavement Markings and R&M Construction asked the Halton Region's Administration and Finance committee to give them back more than $71,000 they collectively paid in development charges to cover water and wastewater services. Metro Pavement Markings, a company that has been in business in Acton for about 35 years, is constructing a 12,800 sq. ft. storage building on its property to store large equipment not being used during the wintertime. R&M Construction, a longstanding local landscaping company, is also in the process of building a facility to store its seasonal equipment. When obtaining their building permits, both companies were charged regional development charges, with a portion of the fees designated for water and wastewater services. However, neither company needs those services for their buildings, and even if they wanted them, would be unable to get them.
