Halton Police, who were called to the single-vehicle crash about a km south of Hwy. 7 at approximately 6:25 a.m., said the woman died at the scene. Police did not release the victim's name, but The Independent & Free Press has learned she was Sarah McDonald. McDonald was travelling northbound on Sixth Line north of 22 SARAH Sideroad when MCDONALD for unknown reasons she swerved to the left, lost control of the vehicle, then hit a tree. Halton Regional Police Det. Const. Chris Heffernan of the Collision Reconstruction Unit said the tree was about six metres off the road. Karen Wood, McDonald's older sister, said she was heading home at the time of the crash and it's believed she may have swerved to avoid hitting an animal. "That's one possibility, it's a very rural area," said Heffernan. "We don't believe alcohol was a contributing factor," said Heffernan. McDonald attended Erin High School and just graduated from the business administration program at Sheridan College. Wood said her sister wanted to be an accountant and was to start studying for her degree at the University of Guelph this fall. She worked part-time at the Terra Cotta Inn. Wood said her sister loved animals.
