Rural residents, from the Eighth Line and 25 Sideroad areas, appeared at Monday's council meeting protesting the inclusion of their properties into future employment lands. Council approved Official Plan (OP) Amendment No. 10, which deals with the expansion of Georgetown's urban area for a future population of 20,000 residents between 2021-2031-- primarily in 1,000 acres bounded by Eighth Line, 10 and 15 Sideroads and Trafalgar Rd., and future employment lands along Steeles Ave. and Five Sideroad. The Province had set a deadline of June 16 requiring all municipalities to adjust their OPs to conform to the Growth Plan. Then, after a request by Ward 2 Councillor Bryan Lewis that individual property owners living within the affected areas be notified of the changes, 300 letters were mailed out setting a new public meeting date of May 31.
