Georgetown Seniors Centre celebrated its 15th anniversary By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre On Friday, June 15th, we celebrated not only Seniors' Month but our 15th birthday. The barbecue had all three ingredients for a successful party­ great people, great food, and great music. Congrats to Sherry and Terri and all those who helped make it a success. Mayor Rick Bonnette presented Service Awards to Bernie Bradner, Mahrukh Bapooji, Shirley Beaumont, Rose Batten, Bob Bairstow, and Dan Baris. Every year names are put forward to receive this award to a limit of six per year Marilyn Mason was the recipient of a very special Senior Of The Year award from the Government of Ontario. This was in recognition of her tireless work at the Centre and other volunteer organizations around town. (See photo, pg. 18) Tuesday Toonie sandwiches are over until September but the kitchen is always equipped to make you a bagel and cream cheese or a bowl of soup. Of course the coffee pot is always on-- 75 cents a cup with two cookies. The forecast is for a hot summer. Keep in mind the Centre is air conditioned and you are welcome to spend some time cooling off. Not all things come to an end for the summer. All drop-in programs such as carpet bowling, euchre, bid euchre, chess, darts, and bridge continue throughout the summer season. Active Living programs, Stability Ball and Weights, Still Sizzlin', and Zumba Gold also carry on during the summer. Perhaps you are interested in registering for one of these. Registration forms are available at the Reception Desk. I had hoped to see more people and their grandkids interested in the zoo trip. If you are interested drop in and sign up or, if you need more information please call me at 905-873-1210.
