This week, 47 drivers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have been in a legal strike position and Red Cross management is in a position to lock out the employees. Eight of the unionized drivers work out of the Red Cross office on Nippissing Road in Milton, which covers the north Halton territory including Acton and Georgetown. There is only one unionized driver at the Oakville branch, which serves 47 clients weekly, according to the Red Cross. Approximately half of the Red Cross's 49 transportation clients in north Halton are driven to hospital for dialysis and other important medical services, said Tanya Elliot, a spokesperson for the Red Cross. Harris selected for OMHA under-16s Georgetown teen Jacob Harris has been chosen to participate in an Ontario Minor Hockey Association tryout tournament in August to determine the roster for Team Ontario's under-16 entry in the 2011 Canada Winter Games. The six-foot, 185-pound centre captained the Halton Hurricanes to the OMHA bantam AAA championship title and a bronze-medal showing at the OHF finals this past March. Harris, 15, is among 14 forwards in the Team OMHA lineup that will play in a sixteam tournament in Kitchener Aug. 1215, and the top players selected from that event moving on to represent this province at the Canada Winter Games next February in Halifax.
