Georgetown Seniors Centre is a cool place to be in the summer By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre At the Canada Day celebrations in Glen Williams, one of our members, Eva Murdock, was named Citizen of the Year for the Glen. Congratulations Eva! The Centre's coolness has been appreciated during this summer of heat waves. Predictions are for the heat to continue. Remember you are always welcome to drop in to cool off. There is usually someone around to share a moment with. On Monday, August 23, Acclaim Health presents a free seminar at the Centre on Home Based Dementia Training for Family Caregivers. It runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes lunch. If interested to register, call 1-800 3877127 ext. 2413 by August 16. Coming up for the Day Trippers Travel Group is the Shaw Festival October 18, another One Day Cross Border Shopping trip to Buffalo November 17, and a Christmas trip to the Trent Hills on December 2. More information regarding these trips is available at the Travel Desk or by calling Florence at 905-873-1210. A reminder to all program conveners that your report for the next HillsView, September/October, is due by July 23. The Centre kitchen is closed by 3:30 p.m. during the summer months and at any time when there is no volunteer to man it. If you wish to see it open every time you come in, then it will require more volunteers. Have you thought about offering some of your time? Friday, July 30 is "Toonie Movie" afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. This month the movie is The Lovely Bones. Remember that for your toonie you get the movie, popcorn, and a drink. What a deal! Plans are well underway for another exciting and busy upcoming season at your Centre. If you have an idea or are willing to offer a program, please call Terri, our co-ordinator, at 905-877-6444. She would love to discuss any ideas with you. 19 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, July 22, 2010 NOTICE 2010 MUNICIPAL ELECTION CANDIDATE REGISTRATION/NOMINATION This notice is for anyone proposing to be a candidate in the municipal election on October 25, 2010 for the Town of Halton Hills for the offices of: · Mayor · Councillors (Local and Regional) · Regional Chair (Nomination form is to be filed with the Region of Halton) · Trustee, Halton District School Board · Trustee, Halton Catholic District School Board · Trustee, Conseil scolaire de district du Centre Sud-Quest (Nomination forms to be filed with Town of Oakville) · Trustee, Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud (Nomination forms to be filed with the City of Hamilton) Candidates may file a nomination form during regular business hours with the last day for filing being September 10, 2010.
