Miss Acton to vie for CNE crown Larissa Schausbreitner already has one crown, but she will be vying for another one later this summer in the Ambassador of the Fairs competition at the CNE. Schausbreitner, 2009's Miss Acton Fall Fair, will be competing with 70 other fair ambassadors from across Ontario for the title that takes the winner across the province as a representative of the CNE and all agricultural fairs. The competition will be held Aug. 20 to 21 (preliminary round) and the ambassador will be selected on Aug. 22. Contestants are interviewed by a panel of judges who decide the finalists on the basis of community knowledge and involvement, knowledge of the CNE, agriculture, personality and presentation. They must give a five-minute speech on agriculture, agriculture societies or some aspect of their fair. The field is narrowed to three finalists who must answer an impromptu question. The winning candidate represents the CNE for the next year, promoting, educating and informing the public on Canadian agriculture and bridging the gap between rural and urban communities. They also visit many fairs and special events throughout the year.
