Photo by Ted Brown Town to spend $40K to find best site for arenas By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer The Town will spend $40,000 researching the best site to put the future arenas, but a decision on where, when and how much won't be made until the next council term commences. "It's been a long arduous process to get us to this particular point. It's taken a lot of people... who have joined together with one common goal: we need arenas we need ice surfaces and we need places for kids to play. ... We need buildings and we need them today," said Ward 2 Councillor Bryan Lewis, chair of the Georgetown Arenas Task Force at the July council meeting. "We have some momentum going now, and we cannot afford to let it come to a stop," he said, "so when the new council is in place, they're not starting from square one." Council then gave staff the go-ahead to commission a functional servicing report, costing $40,000, for the possible siting of arenas at Mold-Masters SportsPlex, Gellert Community Centre & Park, and Acton Arena & Community Centre. Construction could include both conventional and non-conventional (fabric covered) buildings for possible arena solutions.
