Photo by Jon Borgstrom GEORGETOWN GARDEN CENTRE HANGING BASKETS Great Variety of Andrea & Joe Council to inform MTO of concerns about proposed highway option Continued from pg. 1 a blow to the Town's recently approved Official Plan, which designated employment lands on the north side of Steeles Ave., between Sixth Line and Winston Churchill Blvd., and to efforts to keep agriculture in south Halton Hills. They contend it would also destroy the rural character of the area. "When I look at 4-3, I think this has the potential to be devastating to Halton Hills," said the mayor. Bonnette said he would write a "pointed" and "candid" letter to the MTO about council's serious concerns with 4-3. "It's a no-brainer, that 4-2 is the preferred option (of Halton Hills council)," Bonnette said. "We have to let to them know now that (4-3) is not acceptable and flies right in the face of our community vision. "I can't see any benefit to Halton Hills unless they are planning to put tolls on it and we can collect the money... and we know that's not going to happen," he joked. Scenario 4-3 would be an eight-lane highway through the town, said Wards 1&2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville, and would eliminate the green space between Halton Hills and Milton, leading to the urbanization of all of Halton Hills, south of the Greenbelt. "I'm positive it would lead to it...the speculators would drive out anyone remaining in that area," he said. "I hope we can be very strong in our message to the Province." Wards 3&4 Regional Jane Fogal added, "this is not part of our vision; they are (MTO) taking over our vision.... Maybe the time to strike is now." The MTO will release its transportation strategy later this year. The Town has requested a presentation to council at that time.
