Photo by Eamonn Maher Grieving family stunned by cruel message By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer When the Zaretsky family's cat Dalai went missing Sunday Aug. 1, they frantically searched their Georgetown neighbourhood and ravine near their home for him. And when he hadn't turned up by the next day, they put posters up around the area with Dalai's picture on it, hoping that someone had found him and would contact them. But instead the family got a nasty surprise Friday morning when they found one of the posters tossed on the front porch of their Russell St. home with the word "DEAD" scrawled in big red letters across it. "It's very disturbing," said Dmitry Zaretsky. He said it's been particularly upsetting because the family is still reeling from the loss of his wife and children's mother Larisa who was murdered in Toronto in February. She was stabbed to death at the Dara Residence on Homewood Ave., where she was the manager. A Toronto man was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Dalai, a Persian cat, was a gift from Zaretsky's son to his mother. "We've had a difficult year. The cat is our recovery," said Zaretsky. He believes someone in the neighbourhood could have left the poster at his home, and he's not sure if the cat is dead or alive, or what happened to him. He said when his son arrived home at 3 a.m. the poster was not on the porch, so it must have been put there between then and 7:30 a.m. when they found it. The poster had both Dmitry's and his brother Yuri's addresses and phone numbers on it.
