10 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,September 14, 2010 Noah's Ark sets sail here After a year of planning, Georgetown Rug Hooking Guild is hosting the Canadian Debut of Noah's Ark, the work of the late Mary Sheppard Burton of Germantown, Maryland. Burton hooked the body of the ark and two of the animals, and the balance of the animals were hooked by various rug hookers across North America. The large threedimensional work will be unveiled tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. at John Elliott Theatre, then moved into the Gallery to join the balance of the Georgetown Rug Hooking Guild's 2010 show, and will be on display until Sept 18. On hand to set up the ark were (in front, from left) Leonard Feenan of Charles Town, West Virginia, who constructed the frame for Mary's ark, Mary's granddaughter Jennifer Zamora of Frederick, MD, in back left, Barbara Barton, of Bowie, MD, constructed most of the animals, and Georgetown Rug Hooking Guild librarian Jan Lord-Giraldi, who was responsible for having the show brought to Georgetown. When the ark finishes its show in Georgetown, it will be moved to its permanent home at the North American Society Museum in Nova Scotia.
