Local dancers to represent Canada at Worlds Georgetown dancers Julia Bonifacio, Abigail Dillon and Alyssa Gibbons will be representing Canada in the World Dance Championships in Riesa, Germany this November. The girls were chosen from hundreds of hopefuls who auditioned across Canada for Blake McGrath of So You Think You Can Dance. The style of dance they will be performing in Germany is called Showdance, an energetic and theatrical style of jazz. Abbey and Julia, both 12, and Alyssa, 15, dance at Center Stage School of the Arts and are on the competitive team there. The girls train in ballet, jazz, tap, acro, lyrical and hip hop. All three are also accomplished soloists with many medals and special awards between them. The first rehearsal for the Canadian National Dance Team was on Sunday, Sept. 12 and the girls worked hard to prepare for their goal of winning a gold medal for Canada. There will be a fundraiser for Alyssa this Sunday, Sept. 19, from 4-7 p.m. at Shoeless Joe's in Georgetown. For more information, please contact gabriele.stohr@hotmail.com. The girls will also be holding a bottle drive and other fundraising activities and asking for sponsorship from local businesses to help them pursue their dream. 17 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, September 14, 2010 Saturday, September 18th 12 noon to 4:00pm GEORGETOWN OPTIMIST CLUB 13439 Hwy. 7 Bronte Creek Provincial Park Breckon Shelter Free Park Admission with Pledge Form Visit t www.cycleforautismhalton.com for more information ion Every Thursday at 7 pm Price $5.00 per Five Game Session (3 Sessions) CASH PRIZES Call CLAY 905-873-1709 for details.
