8 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, September 16, 2010 ("* $'!% 3:, 4232 1 32 ./ # 0 Acton Fall Fair's 97th edition gets underway tomorrow The 97th annual Acton Fall Fair runs this weekend at the Prospect Park Fairgrounds with the three-day event opening tomorrow (Friday). On Friday, Education Day runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for area school children. Any preschool child accompanied by an adult-- and seniors-- are welcome to come to Education Day. Gates open to the public at 4 p.m. The full midway will be in operation, there will be exotic and domestic birds and farm animals in the Poultry/Ag Awareness Tent, Homecraft exhibits in the main building will include junior work, school work, baking plants, flowers, antiques, crafts and hobbies, and fairgoers can check out the Ken Jen Petting Zoo. The Heavy Horse Pull is set for 6 p.m., and the Miss Acton Fall Fair Pageant at 8 p.m. "Elvis Is In The Building-- Elvis Tribute Show" will be held in the Dufferin Community Centre Saturday at 7:30 p.m. featuring a three-hour performance also including The Great Pretenders who will do tributes to Marilyn Monroe, Roy Orbison, Tom Jones and Rod Stewart. On Saturday Fair gates open at 8 a.m. with a full day of events scheduled including midway, food booths, vendors, beef cattle show, 4H shows, poultry show, Flyball Dog demonstrations/show, sheep herding demonstrations and much more. The parade, featuring local floats, marching bands and more, will begin at noon at McKenzie-Smith Bennett School, through the downtown, then into the fairgrounds. The Baby Show will be held at 1:30 p.m., the Highway Truck Pull at 5 p.m., Garden Tractor Pull at 6 p.m., and "Legends" Concert at 7:30 p.m. Donations to Acton Food Share Food Bank will be gratefully accepted at the concert. Gates open at 8 a.m. Sunday. Daily events feature Antique Tractor Pull, 4x4 Truck Pulls, Mini Pedal Pull for the kids, Dairy Cattle Show, Pet Show, Sheep Herding demonstrations, Ken Jen Petting Zoo and the midway. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, $3 for children 12 and under, children under five get in free. Weekend passes are $18 and are available at CIBC, Bank of Montreal, Scotiabank, TD Bank, Royal Bank and Prosperity One. For more information visit www. actonfair.ca.
