"The major purpose of the Committee is to represent Dutch Canadians in Georgetown and Glen Williams in paying tribute to Canadian War Veterans for the liberation of The Netherlands in W.W.2". The Committee shall consist of at least 5 persons who serve voluntarily as it's members. In 1995 the Committee planted 3 Canadian sugar maples and a small monument in Remembrance Park; in 2000 the people of Halton Hills were presented with a series of commemorative plates entitled "Canada Remembers" displayed in the Town Hall across from the Parks and Recreation Department; in 2005 a monument was unveiled near the front entrance of the Town Hall. Since 1995 the Committee has maintained the flower beds in Remembrance Park and has purchased and planted the tulip bulbs for the park every 2 to 3 years; has purchased tickets for war veterans for special liberation concerts by the Georgetown Choral Society and has sponsored and laid wreaths on behalf of Dutch Canadians at Remembrance Day Services in Georgetown and Glen Williams. In October 2009, as a special tribute for the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Holland, the Committee planted 1000 daffodil bulbs in the periwinkle beds in Remembrance Park. Further to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Holland the Committee is proposing to erect 2 story boards as commemorative plaques in Remembrance Park. These story boards will record more information about the fallen soldiers recorded on the cenotaph. The public is cordially invited to participate in the unveiling ceremony on Sunday, September 19th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. At present, the Committee members are: John Blaauwendraat, vice-all, Martin Boomsma, chairman, Rein Pater, secretary, Nell Ramakers, treasurer and Tom Schenk, publicity. Required Assistance THE PROJECT: To erect 2 memorial plaques in Remembrance Park consisting of 2 printed story boards on concrete bases.
