14 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,September 28, 2010 DEATHS KAYE, Leslie Diane Haigh On Thursday September 23rd, 2010, Leslie Kaye of Hamilton, 61, died of cancer at the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton. Dearly loved by many relatives, including two Georgetown families. She is survived by her husband Bill Johnston, son Jeremy Johnston-Kaye, parents Don and Jessie Kaye, brothers David (Lynne Milgram), Douglas (Barbara Gregory), Mark (Linda Santry) of Georgetown, and Matthew (Christina Gyorffy), mother-in-law Peggy Johnston, sister-in-law Bett Leverette (Drew) of Georgetown, nephews David and Graeme Leverette and Peter, Eric and Nicolas Gyorffy Kaye, nieces Robin and Lyndsay Kaye Santry and numerous cousins. Predeceased by her father-in-law Dr. Don Johnston. Leslie was an exquisite textile artist who participated in many shows. But she was multi-talented, with wideranging interests and a tenacious commitment to making things better. She could fix almost anything and did, often unnoticed. She excelled at design, of indoor and garden spaces, of posters and newsletters. She read widely, held opinions firmly, was impatient with anything but excellence. She was self-reliant but cared deeply for others and felt a responsibility to work for justice, cherish and create beauty, and care for the planet that makes human life possible. She was a wonderful wife and mother. A memorial service celebrating Leslie's life will be held Saturday October 2nd, 2010 at the First Unitarian Church of Hamilton, 170 Dundurn Street, South, Hamilton, visitation at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, for its Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign, or the charity of your choice. BIRTHS My First Day!
