A bylaw was passed by Town Council last night (Monday) authorizing the land purchase and a 21-year licence agreement of a further 1.6 acres from the Halton District School Board (HDSB) to ensure playfields and sports fields at the M-SB site will remain available to the community. The Town is to pay $310,000 per acre for the land, and the licence rental fee is $5 per year plus the Town will assume the annual cost (about $15,000) of maintaining the playfields and sports fields, on both the purchased and licensed land it was outlined in a media release from THURSDAY, September 30, 2010 Town to buy M-SB lands the Town of Halton Hills Tuesday. The school board has allowed for a significant discount, it said in the release, because it didn't have the severance or development costs it would have had if the sale was to the private sector. The transaction is currently being finalized and expected to be executed shortly. The purchase overcomes a townowned parkland deficiency in the area, it was stated in the release. The release also said the purchase will make it difficult for a future Board to develop the rest of the school site while the present school remains there. It also stated the board has no intentions to build a new school or to close M-SB as part of any of its current future plans. There were 186 participants in the 5K events and another 60 kids in the water walk (which end up being a water run). The water walk was designed so that kids could experience carrying water over a distance, something some African kids have to do on a daily basis.
