11 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, October 14, 2010 Ward 4 (elect two) Age: 64 Occupation: Ward 4 Town councillor Past elected experience: Town councillor 2006-10 JOHN DUNCAN Why I am running: There is a huge learning curve when you become a councillor. My participation in council and many committees have prepared me to take on the challenges that will face the Town of Halton Hills over the next four years and beyond. We have important decisions to make; decisions that will fashion our future, not only in development, but in the creation of new sports facilities and libraries. Continued improvement of our roads to protect our children and provide suitable access for all is important. Working with Halton Hills Fire and Police Services has contributed to my knowledge and with future growth I believe this will prove to be invaluable. I have worked with many residents on multiple issues over the past four years; I am accessible. I have no hesitation in offering my experience to you again. I love living and working in Georgetown. I moved to Georgetown 25 years ago because I was attracted to a place that is a safe, friendly community. My wife, Mary, and I built a business here. We enjoy having our daughter and her family living in Ward 4. Upon retirement, I decided to devote my energy to making sure our community is protected. Age: 56 Occupation: Technical advisor Past elected experience: Ward 4 councillor four terms (1997-2010) Why I am running: It has been a privilege to represent Ward 4 during the past four terms of council and I ask for your support in seeking a fifth term. I am running for several reasons; to complete the many projects that I have already contributed to; to have an opportunity to introduce new projects; and to use the insight and experience BOB INGLIS that I have gained over the past 13 years to ensure that the concerns of Ward 4 are heard and acted upon. I fully supported two new firehalls. I support library and recreational infrastructure expansions, and look forward to completion of these vital projects. Ward 4 roads have been improved, cycling lanes have been implemented, and formal trails have been built in the ravine. I want to see these initiatives continued. In the future, new services and improvements will be needed to improve the quality of life which we enjoy in Ward 4. I look forward to having an opportunity to work on any new issue that presents itself. I welcome community input on all major issues, making decisions in the best interest of Ward 4 and Halton Hills. I respectfully ask for your support on October 25. Age: 41 Occupation: Computer sales and service owner Past elected experience: None ROSS MCDUFF Why I am running: Ward 4 is the most densely populated area in Halton Hills and seems to not get the respect it deserves. Our councillors do not live in the ward and I believe that is wrong. You need to live in the neighbourhoods you represent to have a better feel for what is needed within the ward. You need to live beside your neighbour who is impacted by the same issues like traffic, garbage on the streets, and school bus service cancellation to the high schools. I have ideas to help with these issues that will make a difference to the residents of Ward 4. Please visit my website (www.voterossmcduff.ca) and tell me what you feel needs to be changed in Ward 4. Vote on October 25 and vote Ross McDuff for town councillor in Ward 4 to be YOUR voice at Town hall. WALDO PAQUETE Age: 47 Occupation: Lead hand--Archbishop Romero Catholic Secondary School-- DCDSB Plant Department. Elected experience: None Why I am running: I have entered the race in Ward 4 because of the lack of responsible leadership which I have personally encountered within council. I am a nine-year resident of Ward 4 and have noticed that our present Ward 4 councillors do not live in our ward. Our current Regional councillor representing Wards 3&4 does not reside in either ward. Fact: Halton Hills is made up of 10 councillors and not one resides in Ward 4. Have you ever heard the saying "not in my backyard"? It's time the taxpayers of Ward 4 get a fair shake. For the future of Georgetown it's time for new direction. On October 25, make your vote count, send council a strong message: "Protect and preserve Georgetown". Visit www.NewCouncil.ca "working together for a stronger community". I thank you for your time. I hope that you will give me the opportunity to work with and for you as your Ward 4 councillor for the Town of Halton Hills. Age: 57 Occupation: Manager heritage facility Past elected experience: None Why I am running: Georgetown is a charming, safe "great for families" small town. Like most who choose to live here, and having raised three children in town, I want to preserve that special atmosphere. On Town council, though, we need leaders who also see beyond the status quo. Some change and growth is inevitable. We want decision-makers who use challenges to make our town better. We need viANN LAWLOR sion coupled with good management. I'm in this race because I have energy, ideas, drive and an exceptional track record of public service. I look beyond the same old solutions, often finding low or no taxpayer cost solutions to public issues. Having managed my own business and community agencies, I understand efficiency. Some of my ideas have grown into significant local amenities-- the Seed House Garden and Devereaux House, slated for demolition but now a restored heritage landmark with state of the art conservation features and home to Georgetown Soccer Club. I've also worked on causes such as: founding the United Way, hospital fundraising, arts promotion and I currently chair one of our publicly-owned energy boards. Voluntarily, I have made a difference in our town and will contribute more as a Ward 4 councillor.
