28 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, October 14, 2010 Greenwell says consistency is priority number one Continued from pg. 27 Memphis, Greenwell has approached this career turn as a business venture, staying with billets and sharing accommodations with friends on the tour from Ontario along the way. While he admits the pressure to improve on his career earnings is always in the back of his mind, playing well more consistently is currently his number-one concern. "Right now-- it's tough to say it-- but it's not really about the money," he said. "It's just about getting out there and having the exposure, and hopefully one day the money will be there. The toughest part is to be patient. I'd like to keep playing professionally into my 30s because that's when you see a lot of guys hit their peak. But definitely the difficult part is getting the purse money and the financial backing to keep going. All you can do is work hard and hopefully it will all pay off. I would love to pay those people back if it all works out in the end." Red-hot sniper Basso sparks Jr. A Raiders Heading into a stretch of three games in three nights beginning this evening (Thursday), forward Justin Basso is looking to continue his torrid scoring pace for the Georgetown Raiders. The 20-year-old from Mississauga has lit the lamp on 10 occasions in his past four outings and is just one off the lead on the Ontario Jr. A Hockey League's goal-scoring list at 16 in 11 games played. Basso tallied four times on Monday against the Mississauga Chargers in Aurora as part of the Governor's Showcase Weekend in an 8-3 Georgetown victory to keep the Raiders even with Burlington with 18 points in the OJHL's West Division. He also potted a third-period equalizing goal while shorthanded last Friday that helped the Raiders pull off a 3-2 road win over the rival Oakville Blades, with sophomore winger Evan Rodrigues supplying the winner on one of his dazzling rushes. Basso's two-goal effort against the Brampton Capitals in Aurora only a few hours after the hard-fought match with Oakville wasn't enough as Georgetown lost its second game of the season by a 7-5 count. The 9-2-0 Raiders visit the Newmarket Hurricanes Thursday and the Huntsville Otters Friday, followed by a home date with Brampton Saturday at the Alcott Arena at 7:30 p.m. Thomson strikes gold Sixteen-year-old John Paul Thomson has set some lofty athletic goals for himself over the next few years and the Grade 11 Georgetown District High School student continued that climb with a gold medal in the under-16 division at the recent modern pentathlon national championships in Red Deer, Alta. Thomson has an eye on competing at the 2015 Pan Am Games in the Toronto area and then perhaps the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil for the fivediscipline sport, which includes swimming, fencing, horse jumping and running/shooting combined. He has been nominated for Ontario's Quest for Gold program, a funding initiative for athletes to train to represent Canada in Olympic sports. Thomson also won the highest-point award in Red Deer out of all the youth divisions. Submitted photo
