Giving up three goals in a horrifying opening four minutes to the Hamilton Red Wings Saturday evening, the Raiders nearly rallied to equalize the contest, but several missed opportunities and a ghoulish-looking 0-for-7 power play resulted in a 4-3 loss in Ontario Jr. Hockey League action at the Alcott Arena. Those two teams met up again in Hamilton last night (Monday). Saturday's defeat ended Georgetown's three-game win streak and also allowed the Burlington Cougars to take away top spot in the league's West Division from the 14-5-0 Raiders, who will be without four of their top players for the next couple of weeks. Captain Scott Wilson, winger Evan Rodrigues, who hit three posts Saturday, defencemen Tyler McCarthy and Matt Chiarantano left this morning (Tuesday) for Penticton, B.C. to represent Team Canada East at the World Jr. A Challenge and will miss the next five games, starting Thursday in Brampton against the Capitals, followed by a visit this Saturday by the OJHL's best team, the 19-3-0 Markham Waxers. Home dates with Burlington and Hamilton also loom next week. "We've pretty much tried everything to be better at the beginning of games, like our mindset and a lot of other things, especially going back to Hamilton Monday night," said Wilson, who leads the team with 10 goals and 27 assists this season and has committed to the University of Massachusetts at Lowell for either 2011 or `12. "Rodder had a tough night with the posts, but our power play has just gone downhill since game one. I think we were up at about 30 per cent (success rate) at the beginning of the season and now it's near 20, so we have to figure that out." Wilson, Chiarantano and Rodrigues were the goal scorers against Hamilton, outshot 36-25 by the home side. Even in a 9-2 rout of the last-place IceHawks in Milton on Friday night, the Raiders went 1 for 9 with the man advantage. Justin Basso (2), Chiarantano (2), Kyle Caor milleri, Duston Hebebrand, Alex Lubczuk, Alex D'Oliveira and Ralph Cuddemi were the goal scorers. While Wilson is excited to put on the Team Canada jersey over the next fortnight, starting with exhibition games this weekend against Team Canada West and Russia, the 18-year-old Oakville resident will be keeping close tabs on the Raiders. "We've got a few older guys who will step up leadership-wise, but with the four of us gone, it's going to be tough," he added. "I'm sure Wally (Raiders' head coach and GM Greg Walters) will mix up the lines and get everybody going. We've been working in some APs (affiliated players) into games and practices and this will be an opportunity for them to show what they can do."
