8 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,November 23, 2010 Tooth Chatter Sally Ann Kettle Campaigns underway By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer With Christmas just around the corner the Salvation Army kettle campaigns are underway in both Acton and Georgetown. The campaigns kicked off Saturday and the kettles will be out throughout Christmas Eve (Dec. 24). The goal for the Georgetown campaign is $60,000 and in Acton the hope is to raise $32,000 in the kettles. The money raised is used to fund the Salvation Army's Family Services program, which helps the needy in both Acton and Georgetown with things like food, emergency shelter and emergency transportation throughout the year. It also goes toward ensuring families have a Christmas. "This money has to sustain us all year," said Major Renee Clarke of the Salvation Army, Georgetown Community Church. In Georgetown, kettles will be out at the Real Canadian Superstore, Georgetown Marketplace, Metro (Georgetown South), and both LCBO locations. In Acton, starting Friday the kettles will be out at Sobeys and Giant Tiger. Starting Dec. 2 there will also be a kettle at the Acton LCBO. Volunteers are needed to staff kettles for two-hour shifts in both Acton and Georgetown. Anyone interested in Georgetown is asked to call 905-877-1374. In Acton call Reg Marsh volunteer kettle co-ordinator at 519-853-0113 or 519-820-5206. Toys are being collected by the Salvation Army in both Acton and Georgetown. In Acton they can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Church, 114 Mill St. E., the Salvation Army Thrift Store at 130 Mill St. E., or Reg Marsh and Associates, 22 Main St. S. In Georgetown, toys can be dropped at the collection box at Georgetown Market Place or the Salvation Army Church at 271 Mountainview Rd. S. until Dec. 14.
