The Alliance Church was a hive of activity on November 6 when Georgetown's Scout and Guide groups hosted their annual food drive for the Georgetown Bread Basket. Starting bright and early in the morning, volunteers drove around collecting the donated food and brought it all back to the Alliance Church where local Scouts, Guides, Bread Basket volunteers, service club members and community volunteers sorted, stacked and boxed the donations. This year's food drive collected approximately 43,000 pounds of food and $1,350 for the Georgetown Bread Basket. Six families in the Downtown Georgetown area decked the halls and threw open the doors to their homes on November 20 for the annual United Way of Halton Hills Holiday House Tour. More than 400 people made their way through the decorated houses, which ranged in style from traditional elegance to chic contemporary. After picking up holiday decorating tips at the houses, the crowds made their way to St. John's United Church in Georgetown where they were treated to lunch, demonstrations, vendors and a silent auction. The Holiday House Tour is a major fundraiser for the United Way of Halton Hills. For more information, visit www.haltonhills.unitedway.ca.
