Globe, GSC get grants Continued from pg. 5 Fraser said the building will be brought up to code so Globe can invite the public in for some performances. She said although much work has already been done at the armoury, including replacing the roof and sandblasting the building's interior, "there is still a huge amount of work to be done." Globe hopes to start a capital campaign in the new year to raise additional funds to complete the renovation. Globe hopes to be in and practising in the Armoury by next September. Georgetown Skating Club will also receive its funds over one year, to expand the Get Active Learn to Skate Schools programs through new equipment purchases and hiring of an administrator. "This grant is an investment in creating a healthier and more physically active community by promoting physical fitness through learn-to-skate programs at the Georgetown Skating Club," said Joseph Gushue, Georgetown Skating Club president. "As a result, the skating club members will benefit from our club sustainability through the support of a parttime administrator and the purchase of administrative equipment, and the Get Active Learn-to-Skate schools program will benefit from access to skates and helmets," said Georgetown Skating Club past president Laura Rees. The application for the grant was supported by Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott and Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. Roxy Community Music Place on Mill St. in Acton is receiving its funding over a year to purchase sound stage equipment that will help create an attractive and welcoming space for youths and artists to share their musical talents in a unique community meeting place in Acton. "We're really excited by the opportunity to see some new equipment so we will be able to have local artists playing their music," said Roxy Community Music Place board member Richard Stanley. He added it should help the venue grow as a community gathering place. The Lorne Scots Royal Canadian Army Cadets funding will also be over a year to support a wide range of outdoor physical fitness and recreational activities by replacing aging sports and camping equipment that will be use by youth aged 12 to18 from Georgetown, Brampton and west Brampton. Mike Cameron, second lieutenant and training officer for the Cadets, said, "This will allow us to offer far more activities for the kids of Georgetown. "A lot of our equipment dates back to the late-'70s, and this will be a huge improvement," added Cameron. "Funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation contributes to building economic and social resilience in communities across the province by helping many charitable and not-for-profit groups build constructive partnerships and networks," said Michael Chan, Ontario Minister of Tourism and Culture. Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario.
