For their efforts in the event, Atlantis raised $1,000 for Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAShh). `Vintage council' faces challenges By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Mayor Rick Bonnette began his third term of council promising a very busy term of office with just four years to accomplish many goals. The "vintage" council-- the 13th in Halton Hills's 36-year history-- was sworn in for the 2010-2014 at the council inaugural event at the John Elliott Theatre Monday evening. "This is an experienced council, or as Councillor (Joan) Robson said, "this is a vintage council". There are a lot of years served on council sitting at this table and... egos have been left at the door," said Bonnette in his inaugural speech. "A few of us have had an acclamation; I must admit that this was a truly humbling experience," said the mayor, who was the first to be acclaimed to that position. "As Mayor for the next four years, I will continue to be an advocate for our community. I am not going to change my style and I will continue to battle, along with council (wherever we deem necessary) other levels of government or agencies that develop policies that will have a negative impact on our Town. "Last term we had our share of battles with the Province, school board and even the United States government on their "Buy American" policy," added Bonnette. "I will continue to work with all levels of government, boards and agencies, but at the same time I will not be bullied."
