14 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, January 6, 2011 Georgetown Seniors Centre By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre What surprises does this new year of 2011 hold in store for us? For all I wish good health, prosperity, and good friends. Once more I am reminding you that membership renewals are now due. You have until the end of January to do that. Please remember you have an information sheet to fill in; it is required each year that you renew. On behalf of the Centre I would like to thank those members who so generously helped in our Christmas support of two families through Links2Care. Thanks also for your contributions of food for the food bank. I am certain your gifts were well received. I have had some queries regarding the Murder Mystery Dinner on Jan. 22. There are still some tickets available. The last date to purchase will be Jan. 15. It is an event open to anyone. Tickets may be reserved by calling 905-873-1210. You won't HILLSVIEW-NEWS FROM THE SENIORS CENTRES want to miss out on this hilarious happening-- a murder of Titanic proportions. All Active Living programs resume the week of January 10. Closures of the Centre due to weather conditions follow those of the Municipal Offices. If you are in doubt call the Centre before leaving home. There will be a message on the phones in the event of a closure. We hope this does not need to happen but who can predict the weather. If by any chance your instructor for an Active Living Program is unable to perform her duties on a given day, you will receive a telephone call before you leave for the Centre. You will have until Friday, Jan. 7 to sign up to go to Kitchener to see Second City The Stephen Harper Musical. Your ticket will include dinner at the Walpur House in downtown Kitchener. If you are 55+ you are welcome to join us. We are off to a good start for the Year 2011. Come and join us! Acton Seniors Centre By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre It's hard to believe but we are now celebrating the year 2011. It doesn't seem that long ago we were all excited abut the year 2000. Where do the years go? I hope everyone has a happy and healthy year. We seem to have had more than our share of members who have been ill or passed away in the past few months. We will be celebrating New Year in style (if a little late) on Monday, Jan. 17 with everyone's favourite, Swiss Chalet chicken and baked potatoes followed by brownies and ice cream. Hopefully we will have lost a little of the excess inches we put on over Christmas by then, but we will get a chance to shake some of it off while dancing to the music of Jukebox after dinner. The next event planned by the program committee is the Birthday Tea on Tuesday, Jan. 18. If you celebrated your birthday in either December or January expect a call from the committee inviting you and a guest. This is always a popular event, and we always get a good crowd. A reminder to all board and committee members. Don't forget the deadline for the February, March and April edition of Hillsview is January 13. It helps Michelle if you can get it to her earlier. The trip to Rama on Dec. 29 was enjoyed by everyone. Shirley Loucks won the 50/50 draw, celebrating birthdays were Betty Green and Shirley Hunter and sitting in the lucky seats were Pauline Barlow, June Chard, Art Tressel, Betty Campbell and Joan Hayes. The next Rama trip is on January 26. Have you renewed your membership? The drum has been emptied and only paidup members' names are in the drum for the 50/50 draw. Barb Weldon was the lucky winner last week. She won $54. Georgetown Alexander Trenton, DD, F.C.A.D. (A) Creating Confident Smiles Since 1982!
