The campaign goal was $60,000, and $67,000 was actually dropped into the kettles. "I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated, to the many volunteers who stood at the kettles and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the five locations that welcomed us in this Christmas," said Salvation Army Major Renee Clarke. She said the money raised, and also the $25,000 that came in through the Salvation Army's mailer campaign, shows the true spirit of generosity in the town. "Your gifts allow us to help give hope now and throughout the year," said Clarke. The funds are used for Christmas hampers, vouchers and toys, emergency assistance of food, shelter, clothing and transportation, friendship and practical support, summer and day camps for children, information and referral services, and child and parent programs. The Christmas 2010 kettle campaign actually brought in a little less than the previous year, when $71,000 was raised. And the Christmas Appeal mailer campaign was also down by about $5,000. Clark said despite the slight drop, the amount raised will still meet the demands of the community. It's not too late to make a donation.
