Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette has been named vice-chair of the Greater Toronto Countryside Mayors Alliance (GTCMA) for the 2010-2014 term. Bonnette was acclaimed to the position, and Caledon Mayor Marolyn Morrison was acclaimed as chair. Bonnette served as vice-chair last term as well. The GTCMA was formed in 2004 to monitor federal and provincial initiatives and to provide research and analysis and strives to enhance local government in the rural communities within the Greater Toronto Area. Bonnette named vice-chair of GTCMA "The GTMCA has made important inroads with federal and provincial decisionmakers since its inception," said Bonnette. "As an association of communities, we have the opportunity to share our experience and insight while offering our upper tier partners practical solutions to the unique challenges we face." The GTMCA meets three times a year and includes the towns of Aurora, Caledon, East Gwillimbury, Halton Hills, Georgina, Milton, Newmarket, and Whitchurch-Stouffville as well as the Townships of Brock, King, Scugog, and Uxbridge, the City of Pickering and the Municipality of Clarington.
