More than 220 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 submitted artwork that reflected this year's theme: My family recycles every day. Michael Matesic of Halton Hills took one of the top spots while the other winners were Milton's Hannah Zmigrodzki, Kaylie Mitchell of Burlington and Sharon Zhang of Oakville. The art contest allows young residents to use their creativity to help raise awareness about the importance of the environment and Halton's waste diversion programs. Halton Region became the first municipality in Canada and the second municipality in North America, after New York City, to achieve this accreditation from the Alliance of Information & Referral Systems (AIRS).
