With love Reg and Darlene Wanted: audiences for community theatre ByLOIS FRASER Georgetown Globe Productions Live theatre. Is it dying? At Globe Productions and other local theatre groups, there's no shortage of people who want to act, sing, dance, build sets, play instruments, etc. Globe has an excellent reputation and is an award-winning musical theatre group, successful even when competing with much larger Toronto area companies. Today, the challenge is to get audiences to come out and support live theatre. Oh sure, audiences leave singing the praises of the experience and telling us how much fun they had, but it's a worry for the long-term viability of community groups like Globe if people stay home to watch movies or play online. Industry statistics show that from 2003 to 2008, time spent on the Internet increased from 15% to 30%. From 2008 until 2011, we estimate that this number is closer to 40% now. An encouraging sign is that kids' theatre is booming. Globe's successful Fall Youth Workshop series and its youth productions are a runaway success. Globe's strategy is to get schools to bring classes to youth productions to experience the joy of live theatre 11 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, February 1, 2011 CARDS OF THANKS THE family of the late James "Jim" Stark would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to all of the people that made donations in memory of Jim. Thanks to Rev. Shawn Croll for his Guidance and Support. To Tom McDonald for doing a eulogy in memory of Jim and for being such a good friend. To the Jones Funeral Home for their professional service. To the people that brought food over to the house the first few days. Thanks to Glenda Benton for her music for Jim's funeral service. A very special thanks to my family for all their love and support during this difficult time. Pat Stark IN MEMORIAM DAVIES - In loving memory of a wonderful Husband, Charles William, who left January 31st, 2006. Somewhere beyond the sunset, Where loneliness never dies, He dwells in a beautiful garden, Beneath God's Heavenly skies. May the winds of Heaven blow softly, On that sweet and sacred spot, Where my dear husband is sleeping, And will never be forgot. All the little ones miss you so much. Sadly missed and always loved, by your Wife Ellen and it is working! A young fellow attending Beauty and the Beast last March, told his Grade 6 teacher "Wow! That was amazing. That was even better than 3D!" Yes, live theatre is the original 3D experience and the sound is always in sync with the actors' lips. Georgetown Globe Productions encourages everyone to come to see their newest cabaret, A Time to Remember. It is a compilation of songs from every musical (yes, all of them!) that Globe has done in the last decade, including: Evita, Man of La Mancha, Kiss Me Kate, West Side Story, Oliver, The King and I, Joseph, and more. Thirteen talented and experienced cast members will make the two hours show fly by, with their glorious voices, choreography and comedic antics. Whether you are a live theatre enthusiast or a couch potato who wants to live dangerously, this show will get your feet tapping. Tickets are $24 (adults) $22 (students, seniors or groups of 10 or more) $16 (children 12 and under) plus HST and are available at 905-877-3700 or www.haltonhills. ca/theatre.
