4 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,February 8, 2011 Public invited to voice views on possible arena funding TRANSPORTATION MASTER PLAN STUDY NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE #1 THE STUDY The Town of Halton Hills, through their consultant Hatch Mott MacDonald, has initiated a Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Study. The Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Study will develop an integrated transportation plan and associated strategies that consider all modes of travel to meet road network challenges up to 2031. The study will identify future projects within the study area. Continued from pg. 1 The cost for three arenas is $29 million, of which $25 million would come from loans-- most of that paid by property taxes. Included in the capital budget deferral, is the Acton Seniors' Centre expansion plan and possible Acton youth centre because the economies of scale means it would be cheaper to build the those centres at the same time (and place) as the twinning of the Acton Arena. The relocation of a senior lit soccer field and the Alcott tennis courts is required if one or two arenas are added to the Mold-Masters SportsPlex. Financing options in the staff report will also look at more details on the sale of surplus Town assets to help pay for the arenas. Perlin said council will deal with Halton Healthcare Services's request for a Town contribution $4.546 million at another meeting. He said a date for the meeting is pending until Mayor Rick Bonnette meets with Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Deb Matthews-- no date has yet been set for that meeting. PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE The Town of Halton Hills will be seeking input from the public through a variety of consultation groups and meetings held during the course of the study. An on-line survey has been accessible through the study website since early December and we encourage you to provide us with your input in advance of the first Public Information Centre. The Town is planning to hold two PICs during this study to present findings and solicit your input and comments. At the conclusion of the study, there will be an opportunity to review the Transportation Master Plan report and provide your feedback. The first PIC will be held to present information on the study and solicit feedback from the public on the problems and opportunities and existing conditions. The PIC will be an open-house format, with a presentation to occur at 7 p.m., followed by the opportunity to ask questions of the project team on a one-on-one basis. We encourage those interested in the study to attend.
