Bedtime Stories-- for adults only-- will keep you wide awake By ROXANNE THORTON Georgetown Little Theatre It is very hard to sleep, when you are laughing yourself silly at this riotous comedy that will open at the John Elliott Theatre on February 25. Bedtime Stories, written by renowned Canadian playwright Norm Foster and directed by Georgetown Little Theatre's Pamela Niesiobedzki-Curtis, is a sure fire winner as top-notch comics romp through Foster's sextet of funny, naughty and heartfelt interconnected bedroom scenes, searching for love and understanding in their divergent life journeys. According to Niesiobedzki, "there are many logistical challenges to the smooth changeover of both characters and scenes when presenting this type of play, but you will not be disappointed. The endless efforts of a strong production team, a fabulous crew and an energetic and talented cast, will whisk you away into this "radio" world that they have created." "Foster, like his American counterpart Neil Simon, creates true to life characters that he places in challenging situations," she said. "There is a realism in their struggle that often touches the heart of each and every one of us as Foster pulls us in with laughter then calmly lets us have it, right where it hurts." The first Bedtime story sets the scene for the five tales to follow. We discover that Eddie (Rob Long) a washed-up radio announcer has destroyed his marriage to the lovely Laura (Heather Stock) through his endless schemes to find success. This time however he has gone too far. He has a sweet, middle-aged couple (Mark Tiller, Margaret Brady) on his radio show. Unbeknownst to himself, his "sex on the radio" scheme touches the lives of many of his listeners throughout the evening hours that follow. Although the humour is a little off the wall, with sight gags reminiscent of Abbott and Costello, you are sure to enjoy the comedy shtick of two bungling burglars, (Ian O'Brian, Rob Pearce) or the wonderfully accident-prone exotic dancer, (Emma Smith) or even the middle-aged shock rocker, (Steve Rossiter) whose randy reputation, has encouraged a teenage fan, (Nicole Hammond) to put the moves on her music idol. Round this out with the self-centered ex-cheerleader (Andrea Gaynor) and the wacky taxi driver (Ro Palumbo-Coates) and you have the makings of a first-rate comedy that you will definitely not want to miss. Bedtime Stories is Georgetown Little Theatre's comedy entry in the Association of Community Theatres-Central Ontario's Festival. The adjudication will take place on Friday, March 4 for those who may wish to purchase tickets for this special evening performance. Bedtime Stories opens at the John Elliott Theatre, 9 Church St., Georgetown, on Friday, Feb. 25 and has evening performances at 8 p.m. on Feb. 25, 26, March 2, 3, 4 and 5.
