"This is a wonderful community­ that has proved to be very supportive of this (type of) event," says Shelley Lewis the event co-ordinator. This is the brainchild of Brett Worby and John Challinor who serve on the board of Hope Place Centres. Hope Place Centres offer help and hope to men and women in the community wishing to recover from drug and alcohol addictions. They have three locations-- Halton Recovery House in Hornby, Hope Place Women's Treatment Centre in Milton and the Oakville Outpatient Centre in Oakville. The Skate-a-thon to be held at Mold-Masters SportsPlex on Family Day-- Monday, February 21, will have food provided by The Club at North Halton, face painters for the young at heart, and some local hockey celebrities such as Bryan Lewis, Peter McDuffe and the Georgetown Raiders Jr. A hockey team. It will bring together skaters and hockey enthusiasts of all ages-- skating to support the programs at Hope Place. Admission is only $5 per person and a family can come for $25 (and receive a tax receipt). Those skaters who bring $100 in donations for the charity will put their name in a draw to win three Toronto Maple Leaf tickets-- gold section.
