Region ready to rumble (strips) on Trafalgar Road Residents say intersection changes will help, but add the process is `too slow' Continued from pg. 4 coming to an intersection. A centre median island is planned as they approach the intersections. In the same area there are to be oversize speed limit signs and speed display boards that tell drivers how fast they're going. A "Prepare to Stop" sign is to be posted for southbound traffic. Transverse bars are to be painted on the roadway ahead of the islands to "help give drivers a reference to how quickly they're going." At Five Sideroad a westbound left turn lane is planned along with eastbound left and right turn lanes. At 10 Sideroad an eastbound right turn lane is to be added, and north and southbound there are to be additional right turn lanes. Following a suggestion by area resident Rob Heaton at the meeting, Malone said they will look at the possibility of extending the right-turn lane at Maple Ave./17 Sideroad intersection as well to ease congestion there, especially when traffic is backed up because of trains. Laurie Jeffery, a Thompson Rd. resident, said adding lanes at the intersections, "will absolutely help," but didn't have much faith that the pavement markings etc. would slow drivers down. "In some areas it will improve the movement of traffic, but it may impact on properties more than what they are aware of," said Doug Birnie, a Trafalgar Rd. resident, of the planned improvements. John Rainville, also of Trafalgar Rd., said, "the process is too slow." "By the time the Region does anything it's years behind the problem," said Rainville, who has difficulty getting out of his driveway due to traffic. He does think the intersection improvements will help and hopes synchronization of the lights will as well. By Cory Soal R.H.A.D. . . . Lend Me Your Ears You have probably heard recently, that legislation has been passed that will target drivers using cell phones while operating a motor vehicle. We all know that distractions are a dangerous combination and common part of driving on today's congested roadways. Any way to lessen the number of distractions faced daily would greatly help one to focus on the task at hand, and get on with their day. At the Georgetown Hearing Clinic, we do not condone the use of cell phones while driving, but when absolutely necessary, a hands free device, such as a speaker phone, line OnstarTM or a bluetooth connected earpiece can be very useful and help reduce distraction - not to mention allow the driver the use of both hands. At The Georgetown Hearing Clinic, we provide a wide variety of custom fit and non custom fit bluetooth hands free devices. The Georgetown Creating confident smiles since 1982.
