In Focus, March, 2011 4 Letter from In Focus March Break 1999. I'm sitting in the Toronto airport with my family waiting to board a plane to Aruba. I'm listening to my brand new Discman (hey, it was the `90s and I was in high school everybody had one!) and people watching. In the sea of stressed out strangers, I spot a familiar face: my music teacher from elementary school (hereby known as Beloved Music Teacher). I idly wonder where she's going before returning to my people watching. Cut to a few hours later. I glance around the plane and notice Beloved Music Teacher seated a few rows behind me. That answered my earlier question: she was going to Aruba. After arriving in Aruba and getting off the plane, I thought that would be the end of it. We would clear customs, get our luggage and then my family and Beloved Music Teacher would go our separate ways. Not so. Turns out Beloved Music Teacher was staying at the exact same resort as us. The poor woman probably thought she was getting away from it all by going on a tropical vacation only to run into two former students (me and my sister), two current students (my brothers) and their parents whenever she went to the pool or to dinner or to the beach. Luckily she had a good sense of humour about the whole thing and would smile or say hi any time we crossed paths, but I'm pretty sure we put a damper on her relaxing getaway. Whether you spend your March Break soaking up the sun in a tropical destination or frolicking in the snow in a cooler climate, remember to take a copy of In Focus with you. Send us a photo of you or a loved one vacationing with In Focus and you could see yourself in our next issue! As always, we want to hear from you. What are your favourite March Break activities? Have you ever run into an old teacher somewhere unexpected? Do you have an event coming up? Let us know! Happy March! Kids wore their pyjamas and brought favourite stuffed animals to the Georgetown branch of the Halton Hills Public Library on January 27 for Family Literacy Day Storytime. The nighttime event began with special guest Mayor Rick Bonnette, who read from his eBook, The Incredible Adventures of Goon Sharoon. Afterwards, Douglas Davey from the library kept the party going by telling some of his favourite stories and reading from his bestloved books. Happy Family Literacy Day!
