Georgetown Kumon students honoured for academic work The Kumon Math and Reading Centre of Georgetown recently held its annual Student Achievement Awards Event at St. Andrew's United Church. The event is dedicated to recognizing the hard work, dedication and success of students ranging from pre-school to high school, while inspiring and motivating them to continue to strive towards their academic and personal goals. "Each student at the centre has done something truly remarkable," said Instructor Rosalie Scarlett. "For many of the children, the result has been better grades in school, but we're also celebrating other accomplishments such as improved study habits, independent learning skills and self-confidence, all of which are going to help them succeed not only in school, but throughout their lives." Each student received a personalized award as recognition of their successes throughout the past year. Students who finished the year on the Advanced Student Honour Roll (given to those who attempted challenges a minimum of one-year above their current school grade level) were given awards, as well as those who reached milestone and anniversary achievements. Scarlett says that even though she is the one who guides them on a daily basis, she learns a lot from her students as well. "The success these students have experienced is inspirational," said Scarlett. "It has been and continues to be an honour to be a part of their journey. I offer my sincerest congratulations to each of my students for their success." For information about Kumon or the centre in Georgetown, please call 905-873-9579.
