8 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, March 3, 2011 Letters to the editor...letters to the editor...letters to the editor Mystery 'Iceman' thanked for work I want to give a big thank you to the gentleman who works in the cover of darkness cleaning, scraping and flooding the rink at George Kennedy Public School. Last year and this my son and his friends have spent many hours playing what they call "pond hockey" on this frozen slab honing their shinny skills. During the months of January and February the boys are out there 15-20 hours a week playing pick-up hockey with anyone who shows up ready to play. What a wonderful way to improve their skating and hockey skills thanks to the hard work of the Iceman, whose efforts are greatly appreciated. Ray Eckert, Georgetown Georgetown merchants and restaurants who donated raffle items, gift certificates, etc. for our third annual "My Sister's" Pink Pyjama Party & Spaghetti Dinner held on January 28 in support of The Weekend To End Women's Cancers. You were instrumental in making the event such a tremendous success. For the third year in a row we had a sold out event. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Young's Pharmacy/ Renaissance Woman which came on board this year as a corporate sponsor. Thank you also to the band, Silvercreek, which generously donated their time and provided the music for the event and as well to "The Pinkindales" who certainly entertained us. We certainly don't want to forget to thank Jamie and Tommy, our two bartenders, who volunteered their time for the last two years and have already signed up for next year's event. A huge, huge thank you to the 200 women in Pink Pyjamas -- those who partied and those who volunteered their time to ensure the event was a success-- you definitely showed what supporting "Your Sister's" is all about. Thank you once again for making this an outstanding event. Roberta Kent, Georgetown Community helped to make a memory Dear editor, Recently, my daughter Alyssa was chosen to represent Canada at the World Dance Championships in Riesa, Germany. Her participation would have been impossible if not for the support of many wonderful people. We would like to thank Melissa for organizing a fundraiser at Shoeless Joe's. Thank you Isa and staff for their hospitality and to the Georgetown merchants who donated prizes. Thanks to our family and friends and those who attended, making the fundraiser a huge success. Special thanks to the Roulston family for their kindness. We would also like to thank corporate sponsors: Center Stage School of the Arts, The Optimist Club, Breakaway Staffing Solutions and Novo-Nordisk. Special thanks go to Alyssa's teammates, Abbey and Julia who happily joined her in bottle drives and dancing at the Farmer's Market to raise funds. Special thanks to Kim and Tracy for their many kindnesses. We are truly blessed to live in a community that cares so much. So many people offered their encouragement and assistance. Team Canada brought home the bronze medal and many happy memories. Gabriele Stohr, Georgetown Stranger delivers a load of kindness Dear editor, Recently we purchased a laundry tub in a large box at Home Hardware. However, it was too large to fit inside the car or trunk. Several people offered help, unsuccessfully, before a young man with a truck said he could use his truck to follow us home and deliver it. We offered to pay him for gas and time but he graciously would not accept money. He said he was from out East, and people helped one another. To Roy from out East, we will remember your kindness. A few years ago, another gentleman with a truck offered and delivered our snow blower purchase from Canadian Tire. We thank him, too. Buy local, folks!
