Shirley Beaumont, George Ohashi and Florance Carswell were also thanked for their years of service. As you are aware, that, as a result of a Space Needs Study by the Town our new location in the future will be at the Gellert Centre. That is not about to happen overnight but it has moved a step closer as Terry Alyman, Director of Recreation and Parks announced at the AGM, that, as a result of the council meeting held on Monday, council unanimously agreed to add an amendment calling for the approval of the design and engineering feature for the second phase of the Gellert Centre for the 2015 capital expenditures. This will include the new Seniors' Centre. Keep in mind this does not necessarily mean it will happen but it is certainly a step in the right direction. Let's continue to look to the future. By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre On Wednesday, Feb. 23, the Acton Seniors Centre held its Annual General Meeting (AGM). There were 48 members present, plus four members from Georgetown Seniors Centre: Iris Harrison, Warren Harrison, Florence Riehl and Rick Chambers (president of the GDSC). Mary Walsma welcomed Mayor Rick Bonnette, Councillors Jon Hurst, Clark Somerville and Mike O'Leary, Manager for Recreation and Parks Joy Thompson, and Acton Arena facility supervisor Aaron Matthews. Mayor Rick Bonnette brought greetings from the Town and commented on the fact we have had 45 new members join in 2011 and our hardworking volunteers have volunteered 7,500 hours. He said this is a tremendous achievement for a small, vibrant seniors centre. He congratulated the outgoing president Mary Walmsa and all the board members. Mary Walsma asked if there were any errors or corrections to the the 2010 AGM minutes. It was accepted. Pat Frizzell presented the Treasurer's report and made a motion that Reg March Bev Jones to head Acton Seniors Centre be appointed as auditor for the upcoming year. It was accepted. She asked members to note that if we hadn't started a $1 dropin free for the past year we would have had problems with our cash flow. It was recommended that the membership fee should be increased on January 1, 2012 by $5. This would make the 2012 membership $25. The following members were elected to the three vacant positions on the board. Bev Jones stepped up from vice-president to president. Elected to vice-president was Dave Maloney, to fundraising chair, Sylvia Mitchell and to membership chair, Dolores Wright. Mary Walmsa moved to past-president. Continuing in their present positions are secretary Connie Fix, treasurer Pat Frizzell, program chair Pauline Barlow, social chair Betty Green, property committee Dobbie Frizzell, security committee Bob Bruce and our liaison representative with the Town, Councillor Jon Hurst. *** On Tuesday, March 8 at 1 p.m., the movie will be Portrait of Jennie. On Friday, the Centre was closed due to a new heating and cooling system being installed. The Friday Bingo and lunch took place in the main auditorium. Georgetown Alexander Trenton, DD, F.C.A.D.
